The Enemy in Afghanistan
Dr. Kimberly Kagan (ISW) and Dr. Fred Kagan (AEI) have produced a second report considering how enemy groups would respond to several US Policy scenarios.
A joint product of ISW and the American Enterprise Institute (AEI). The map indicates major enemy groups within the four ISAF Regional Commands in Afghanistan.
The Haqqani Network is a group of fighters based in the area of Paktia, Paktika, and Khost (P2K or Greater Paktia) and North Waziristan Agency in Pakistan’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas.
Hizb-i-Islami Gulbuddin (HIG), led by Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, is a group of fighters whose main area of operation is northeastern Afghanistan, such as the provinces of Kunar, Laghman and Paktia.
Regional Command East (RC East) is comprised of fourteen provinces
