UN Mandate for Coalition Forces Set to Expire

The UN mandate for Coalition forces in Iraq expires in two months.  Up against this December 31, 2008 deadline, the SOFA negotiations have become politically charged as major powers vie for dominance.  To provide a better understanding of this complicated process and the players involved, ISW has released an Overview of the SOFA Negotiations

This excellent resource outlines the struggles that are taking place in Iraq and in the region as negotiators attempt to reach an agreement.  Combined with the updated SOFA Timeline, ISW's SOFA research provides a comprehensive view of the process.
